Veterans can now seek treatment from any behavioral health provider — at the government’s expense, according to a rule that took effect January 17, 2023.

The Department of Veterans Affairs announced that it will pay for or reimburse healthcare facilities for treating eligible veterans in acute suicidal crisis. The rule covers 30 days of inpatient or 90 days of outpatient “emergency suicide care, transportation costs, and follow-up care at a VA or non-VA facility.”
