Medical-Legal Partnership to Improve Maternal Health Access & Outcomes

The National Center for Medical-Legal Partnership and Renaye James Healthcare Advisors invite health center-based medical-legal partnership (MLP) teams to take part in the upcoming Learning Collaborative: Medical-Legal Partnerships to Improve Maternal Health Access & Outcomes. The Learning Collaborative is designed to empower participants with an increased understanding of how the social determinants of health impact maternal health and help them learn how to use MLP to improve maternal health outcomes for health center patients and their communities.

Over four informative sessions, this Learning Collaborative will provide T/TA to health center staff to develop strategies and action plans for aligning MLP activities with potential policy and population health approaches. We encourage health centers that work with multiple special populations, including pregnant women and children, to share their insights and strategies that can be adapted to communities’ unique needs. Each session is 90 minutes.

Introduction to Improving Patient Safety

Federal, state, local regulations, and accrediting organizations require the delivery of safe medical care for patients, staff, and visitors. Throughout four sessions, the speakers will cover various aspects of safe patient care, including safety measure/metric identification, data collection, leadership commitment, facility requirements, regulatory requirements, external collaborations, and governance involvement. These sessions will illustrate how the Board of Directors promotes a culture that prioritizes safety and includes safety metrics in its strategic oversight. The content will reinforce how focusing on patient safety by all departments and staff positively impacts patients and the organization.

At the end of the Learning Collaborative, participants will understand the following:

  • Patient safety is a part of every activity performed in the organization
  • Patient safety is the responsibility of the Board of Directors, leadership teams, and every employee
  • How patient safety metrics are developed and included in a quality/safety program
  • The alignment of the Health Center Program Manual to patient safety
